Bishop Museum’s After Hours: 2nd Friday Monthly
Need a place to pau hana? We’ve got you covered! Explore Historic Hawaiian Hall, experience unique changing exhibitions, hear about the latest scientific discoveries, and engage with Hawaiian cultural practitioners all at Bishop Museum’s After Hours events. This monthly evening event welcomes kamaʻāina and visitors to explore Hawaiʻi’s unique and unparalleled cultural and natural history. See Kalaniʻōpuʻu’s feather ʻahu ʻula (cape) and mahiole (helmet) in Hawaiian Hall; check out Hawaiʻi’s animal and plant biodiversity in the Science Adventure Center; explore the newest exhibitions in the Castle Memorial Building and J.M. Long Gallery; or spend your evening under Honolulu’s star-lit sky on the Great Lawn with food and drinks for sale by local vendors.
‘Iolani Palace: Kama‘āina Sunday - 2nd Sunday of the month
ʻIolani Palace welcomes all residents to Kamaʻāina Sunday when guests can explore the Palace, immerse themselves in Hawaiian culture, taste ‘ono food, support local vendors, enjoy lively entertainment, and more. The free event is held on the second Sunday of every month.

17th Annual Mauka to Makai Environmental Expo
April is Earth Month and there’s no better way to celebrate than with the 17th Annual Mauka to Makai Environmental Expo!
The expo offers live entertainment, hands-on activities, arts and crafts, a fish release, and educational exhibits that showcase ways to protect and preserve Hawai‘i’s environment. Attendees who complete the event passport will also receive a complimentary native plant. Limit one per household, while supplies last.
Free parking will be available in the back parking lot at Jefferson Elementary School beginning at 7:30 a.m., with free shuttle to and from the Waikīkī Aquarium courtesy of Waikīkī Trolley. Guests are also invited to bring refillable water bottles to stay hydrated with our water stations.
Ola Ka ʻĪ ʻEwa
‘Aha Hui ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i is hosting a fun-filled day of music, hula, storytelling, games, student performances and a Hawaiian language speech competition. Some of the interactive booths will include free crafts for keiki to make and take home. Organized by Kūlaniākea as a way for keiki and families to hear ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i outside of school, the first Ola Ka ‘Ī was held in 2019.
Hawaii Symphony Orchestra presents Symphony of the Hawaii Forests

Kaneohe Christmas Parade
Windward Oʻahu ushers in the holiday season with a fun theme "Then and Now." Do you remember what local supermarket used to be where Walgreens is now? Did you know that this parade attracts almost 10,000 spectators? Celebrate the windward community's history, health, and happiness with the 59th annual Kaneohe Christmas Parade! Eō Kāneʻohe!!
The Year Christmas was Almost Cancelled - An Original Musical
Mo’olelo – A Performing Arts Studio presents “The Year Christmas Was Almost Cancelled” – an original musical about a winter season when a catastrophe threatens the annual celebration and Santa, his wife and their faithful elves deal with the potential tragedy of having to cancel Christmas for a year. This heart-warming story about the true importance of the season features a small, tight-knit cast featuring Broadway performer Matthew Pedersen as Santa and Po’okela Award winner Vanessa Mazzullo as Mrs. Claus.
Performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:00pm and Sundays at 6:00pm through December 23rd (plus Thursday, December 21 at 7:00pm).
Waikiki Holiday Parade
Since 1998, the Waikiki Holiday Parade commemorates Pearl Harbor Survivors and the anniversary of the attacks. The mission of the event is to educate students on this important piece of U.S. history and preserving Polynesian culture. It also ushers in the holiday season for locals. The week of events and performances on the island, as well as months of preparations leading up to the trip, give students a unique learning experience that they will not soon forget. Thousands of spectators, residents and visitors gather on the Friday after Thanksgiving to watch this non-competitive parade, which hosts local bands, marching bands from the mainland, Pearl Harbor Survivors, service bands, military units, local officials, dignitaries and entertainers.
Playing With Light by Scitech
Picture walking through a tunnel, illuminated by 20,000 individual LED lights. Now imagine being able to manipulate those lights to follow your every movement! Keiki and ʻohana will also be able to see their shadows come to life with computer vision technology; explore a walk-in kaleidoscope; and be challenged to dodge lasers as they try to get to their next destination. The exhibit will emphasize the importance of play as a means to learning.

In partnership with Hawaiʻi Walls Mural Festival in Kalihi, Bishop Museum is excited to welcome six new murals on our 15-acre campus. Artists Kai Kaulukukui, Solomon Enos, Sean “Hula” Yoro, Lauren YS, Ran Noveck, and Triston Eaton will paint six original news inspired by the Kalihi neighborhood, local histories, and the Museum’s cultural and scientific resources.
To celebrate the completion of the murals, join us during Museum After Hours to see the newly painted walls, meet the creatives behind the murals, listen to spotlight artist conversations, sign up for special tours, and enjoy live music, food, and drink.

Talk Story w/ Filmmaker Justin Chon, Presented by Toyota Hawaii

Justin Chon is a director, writer, and actor known for his work in independent films and popular TV shows. A featured guest as part of the Hawaiʻi Walls Mural Festival, Justin Chon joins Founder of Worldwide Walls (formerly Pow! Wow! Worldwide) Jasper Wong to discuss his creative process and upcoming projects. Chon’s films explore themes of identity, race, and generational differences, drawing on his own experiences as a Korean-American. Some of his notable works include “Gook,” “Blue Bayou,” “Jamojaya,” and “Pachinko.” He is also directing the upcoming “Chief of War” starring Jason Momoa.
Spotlight Panel: Year of the Kāhuli w/ Artist Kai Kaulukukui and Scientist Dr. Norine Yeung

2023 is the Year of the Kāhuli. Artist Kai Kaulukukui creates a mural in collaboration with Bishop Museum’s Malacology scientists who are at the forefront of Native Hawaiian snail conservation efforts. This moderated panel highlights the relationships between science, conservation, and art in Kaulukukui’s creative process. Listen to the stories behind the mural and learn about what you can do to protect Hawaiʻi’s endangered snails, which cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

It is a rare opportunity to see live endangered Native Hawaiian snails in person. Bishop Museum’s Native Hawaiian Snail Rearing Program holds some of the most precious snails in the world that you cannot see anywhere else. Drop by the Atrium of Hawaiian Hall from 6 to 8:15 p.m. to see some of the endangered snails being reared at the Museum to be returned to the wild and talk story with staff who have stewarded generations of rare Native Hawaiian snails.

Immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Hawaiian Hall. Join one of the daily public tours inside Hawaiian Hall to learn more about Bishop Museum’s history, its collections, and the living cultures of Hawai‘i and the Pacific. Meet at the staircase in Hawaiian Hall’s front entry tower.
